Relieve Lower Back & Neck Pain Before Durga Puja with Simple Yoga Postures
Lower back stiffness, aching waistlines, and tight necks are common complaints among working adults. Sitting long hours at a desk, poor sleeping postures, and physical exhaustion can cause severe pain to flare up without warning. While painkiller tablets offer temporary relief, they fail to cure the underlying issue. Practicing targeted, gentle yoga postures daily builds spinal flexibility, releases muscle tension, and keeps your body feeling energized and refreshed.
1.Marjariasana (Cat-Cow Pose)
Marjariasana imitates the stretching movement of a cat. It is ideal for individuals spending long, sedentary hours at an office desk.
Starting Position: Kneel on your mat on all fours (crawling position), placing your weight evenly across both palms and knees.
Movement:
Inhale slowly while raising your head upward. Allow your abdomen to drop toward the floor, curving your spine into a concave position.
Exhale slowly while rounding your back upward toward the ceiling, tucking your chin gently down toward your chest.
Benefits: Stretches the neck and whole length of the spine, relieving built-up stress in the back and waist muscles.
2.Makarasana (Crocodile Pose)
Makarasana is a deeply restorative pose that helps decompress the lower back and release tension from the shoulder blades.
Starting Position: Lie flat on your stomach over the mat with legs stretched straight and forehead resting gently on the floor.
Movement:
Lift your upper body—head, neck, and chest—while supporting yourself on your hands.
Bend your elbows and rest one palm over the other. Place your forehead or cheek comfortably on your folded hands.
Duration: Hold this relaxed posture for 30 seconds while maintaining soft, rhythmic breathing.
Benefits: Relaxes the spinal column, eases chronic lower back stiffness, and reduces physical fatigue.
3.Setu Bandhasana (Bridge Pose)
Setu Bandhasana targets core spinal strength, glute activation, and lower back stability.
Starting Position: Lie flat on your back with your arms resting by your sides.
Movement:
Bend your knees and pull your feet close to your hips, keeping your feet flat on the floor.
Press down through your feet and palms, engaging your back and waist to lift your hips and lower back off the mat.
Duration: Hold the elevated position for about 20 seconds, then slowly lower your hips back to the floor.
Benefits: Strengthens the lower back muscles, tightens the core, and improves spinal alignment.
