With changing weather, issues like dry cough and breathing difficulties become much more common. Once a cough starts, it seems almost impossible to stop, making nights miserable with continuous coughing fits. How can you get relief?
Dry coughs caused by seasonal changes, dust, or allergies tend to be stubborn. Currently, viral fevers are spreading from house to house, accompanied by persistent coughs. On top of that, doctors often advise against taking over-the-counter cough syrups. So, what is the solution? It helps to know a few quick home remedies. These will not only soothe your cough and cold but also reduce allergic tendencies.
1. Ginger and Black Pepper Tea
Ginger acts as a natural antibiotic that helps reduce a dry cough.
Ingredients: 1 inch grated ginger, 4–5 crushed black peppercorns, 1 teaspoon jaggery, and 2 cups of water.
Preparation: Boil the water and add the ginger and crushed black pepper. Let it boil until the liquid reduces to half. Add the jaggery, mix well, and remove from heat.
Usage: Drink this twice a day to reduce coughing and soothe a sore throat.
2. Jaggery and Ginger Drink
Preparation: Bring two glasses of water to a boil in a saucepan. Once boiling, add jaggery and ginger. Reduce the flame and simmer until the mixture thickens. Once thickened, turn off the heat.
Usage: Consuming this warm will quickly relieve coughing and throat pain.
3. Tulsi (Holy Basil) and Garlic Decoction
Ingredients: 7–8 tulsi leaves, a piece of ginger, a few garlic cloves, 1 teaspoon fenugreek seeds, a small piece of raw turmeric, and a pinch of black pepper.
Preparation: Add all ingredients to 1 liter of water and boil until the liquid reduces by half. Strain and remove from heat.
Usage: Drink this every morning to help clear your cough and boost immunity.
