Will the Ukraine War End Soon? Putin Agrees to Resume Talks with Kyiv and Washington, Claims Kremlin

Will the war that has been going on since 2022 finally come to an end? The Russia-Ukraine war might end soon! The Kremlin has dropped such hints, stating that Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to restart trilateral talks with the United States and Ukraine. If those discussions turn out positive, Russia and Ukraine could reach a peace agreement to stop the war.

Putin held a meeting with US President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, in St. Petersburg. Following that meeting, Putin’s foreign policy advisor Yuri Ushakov informed that the Russian President has agreed 'in principle' to resume talks after November 10. He further mentioned that during the Putin-Witkoff meeting, emphasis was laid on "establishing a security framework for both Russia and Ukraine once the conflict ends." Prior to this meeting, Witkoff had also held discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Oslo. He briefed Putin on the outcomes of that meeting.

Due to ongoing disagreements, no trilateral talks have taken place among the US, Russia, and Ukraine since last February. In this context over the past few months, both Russia and Ukraine have launched attacks on each other's energy infrastructure. Strikes have also targeted multiple cargo and oil tankers in the Black Sea, resulting in reported casualties. However, Trump wants the war between Ukraine and Russia to end immediately and is taking initiatives to bring new momentum to peace efforts.

Notably, after finalizing a deal with Putin last week, Trump announced that Russia would immediately supply them with more than 300,000 tons of diesel. In coming November, Putin's country will send an additional 500,000 tons of diesel, followed by a further supply of 1 million tons of fuel. According to Kremlin sources, the meeting between Witkoff and Putin also covered discussions on how to implement this agreement.
