Another Attack on Saudi Arabia Airport! 2 Killed Including an Indian, Several Severely Injured; New Delhi Condemns
The Indian Embassy in Riyadh stated that it is gathering more information about the incident. Moreover, it is maintaining contact with the families of the deceased and the injured.
An attack has taken place at Saudi Arabia's King Fahd Airport. So far, reports confirm the deaths of two people in the attack, with one of the deceased being an Indian national. Several others have been severely injured, including citizens from India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. India has strongly condemned this attack.
The Indian Embassy in Riyadh mentioned that they are collecting further details regarding the event while staying in touch with the families of those killed and injured. However, it remains unclear who or which group is behind the attack. In the past, Iran-backed Houthi rebels have claimed responsibility for attacks on Saudi airports.
Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation stated that the extent of the damage caused to King Fahd Airport by the attack is currently being assessed. Airport operations were temporarily suspended, but service returned to normal shortly after.
India's Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement condemning the attack. New Delhi stated, "We reiterate that such attacks on innocent civilians and critical infrastructure are completely unacceptable. Such attacks must cease immediately. We stand with the people and Government of Saudi Arabia in protecting their sovereignty. We hope that peace and normalcy will return to the region swiftly."
Houthis have been launching attacks on Saudi Arabia almost every day this month. Just a few days ago, the Yemeni armed rebel group attacked Dammam Airport, located about 400 kilometers from Riyadh. For the past few days, the Houthi group has also been targeting King Khalid International Airport in Saudi Arabia's capital, Riyadh. On October 10, they launched a missile strike targeting the airport, resulting in at least 12 deaths and injuring over three hundred people—among whom were 11 Indians. India had condemned that attack as well. The Houthis also launched attacks on Saudi's Dammam Airport and several refineries belonging to the energy company Aramco.
